The standard answer to a question like this - "You get what you pay for'.

I'm going to go with a yes here. Although, I'll have to ask how well they work as triggers in a gym (for basketball) though before I buy them

If you have enough for the 50D AND 17-55 f/2.8L, you've got more than enough for a set of CyberSyncs or something better. I have the ebay triggers and I can't say I get more than 80% reliability.

We-ell......... I had some, found them to be sufficient so long as you had the time to put up with regular misfires. Paid gigs? Heck no. That's why I ditched them for something else... you stand around looking like an idiot and asking people to re-do things since your flashes didn't go off several times in a row.

If you have a important shoot and can not afford flash misfiring, or don't want fuss to diagnose equipment failures, then eBay triggers are not for you. And there's no guarantee that they will work right out of the box.

On the other hand, for the hobbyists on limited budget, who don't mind some reading on how others fix or modify their triggers, and with some minimal soldering skills, then eBay triggers make a nice project. Because of the low price and if you can get a set that work or can make them work, it really pays dividends when you can add 3 receivers later for $15 each, instead of $560 for 3 PWs.

For the record, there are many users have good luck with using the eBay triggers without modifications, myself included.

Back when PWs are the only other choices, it's easy to say taking chances with the eBay triggers, but now we have alternatives, like the Skyport and Cybersync. So it's up to someone's priority, I guess.

I have a set of cactuses and I gave up on them really quickly. I'm going to migrate over to the cybersyncs too. The misfires just didn't work that well for me.

ive got the cactuses
and it needed the antenna mod for me to trust them in paid shoots

tho the transmitter failed on me one day...it was cheap, easy, and fast for me to get replacement transmitters

ive spent about $175 for 3 transmitters and 6 receivers to this date
if the transmitters fail on me again...ill be going to the ABs
theyre just not as easy, quick, and cheap for me to get tho since im not in the states

I have cactus triggers I use on occasion where I do not want to take my PW out into the elements. Can someone explain the antenna mod?

so I did the antenna mod and now my receivers mounted on 285HVs fire intermittently when I press the test button and they don't fire when the trigger is mounted on a body...LOL

Time for something more reliable...hahaha

I spent all last week reading up on wireless options.

I decided on the cybersyncs and can't wait to get them in a few days.

I'm glad I had a lot of member's opinions here to help me make my decision. I think I made a wise choice (thinking long term investment).

Good luck with your choice. :)

Junk, maybe Wal-Mart would be interested in more cheap, Chinese made plastic. I'm not. Anybody want these things? I'll sell you mine. Cheap. Contact me and I'll work something out for you. Hope you don't mind the dust from them sitting in the box. I can't get them to stop firing my flashes, and when they stop, they are dead, then the miraculously fire again. And again. And again... I went back to a PC cord and a PC to HotShoe adapter, until my new SkyPorts get here...

I recommend them so you can see how useful off camera lighting is, you will eventually want pocket wizards though... That's how it was for me at least..
