Afternoon folks. Days could be better now....I don't know what I did, but I somehow agitated my old back injury and now it hurts me to do anything...well, really it was more of a back spasm which then in turn made my back hurt. I can't stand up, sit down, walk, bend over lie down, sit up or reach for something without some sort of sharp excruciating pain. :|

Well, I think I will head to bed and check out the new 24, and see if I can get suckered in for another season. It is a 2 hour show, I really doubt I will make it. I may just wait until next season and rent this one. We'll see. I don't watch any other series type show, but have seen the past seasons of 24. Good thing about the show, you know it will end.Oh man....I completely forgot about the special 24 show! Good thing though, it's available online to watch. I can't wait for the new season to start in January....4 hour premier.

Although, I was a little freaked out when some random lady at the store I was in on Saturday decided it was appropriate to stick her finger in Ian's mouth because he was fussing...not once but twice!I would have told that lady to put her finger somewhere if she did not want it to be gone. What's wrong with some people?

Can someone who knows a bit about New Yawk answer a question for me I've been meaning to ask for a few days. Last week I saw an episode of CSI:NY and there was a scene where Stella was asking someone a few questions. She asked him what he had done after a party the night before and he said, "I took a cab home." So, she asked him if he had a receipt, and he sarcastically replied, "It was a Yellow Cab!"

So... Why does a Yellow Cab ride apparently automagically mean "No, you stupid cow, of course I don't have a receipt!"

And, besides... What other kinds of cabs are there? Any time I've seen a New York street scene in a movie or on TV the streets are full of yellow taxi cabs.
Down here, there is a cab company called Yellow Cab. I've gotten reciepts from all companies I've ridden with, many other than yellow in color.

It may have been said here before but a dogs love is unconditional. If you don't believe me lock your spouse and your dog in the boot (trunk) of your car for three hours. When you eventually open it, which one is pleased to see you?

I don't know Zane for sure. They do have a mother, this breeder raises them (they are hunting dogs and kenneled) I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Anyway, both parents are his dogs. They are AKC. I hope it's not a puppy mill thing. We'll find out today. This is the link. He sounded very nice on the phone and answered all the questions I could think of asking.

The other day, on my way home, I picked up one of those huge energy drink cans. Total caffeine in the can: 280mg. That's right just a little less than 1/3 gram. It was great, until about 10:30 ... then it wore off.

I would have thought a cab would have to be able to give a receipt if you asked for it. That's what confused me so much about that bit of dialog. His reply implied that there's no way he would have a receipt because the cab was yellow, and that doesn't sound like it makes any sense. So, what did it mean?

Most cabs in NYC are yellow and they should be able to give a receipt. There are many gypsy cabs that do not give receipts ro even have meters in some cases but in this case it looks like it was just misinformation.

True on the terriers. I heard back from that breeder. Angus is gone but they do have another set of puppies. We were found to be acceptable by them so now we have a choice to make if we decide to go with a dog. I am concerned about a terrier and the cats. But the breeder says that if it's young enough and we work very hard to socialize the dog, it should be fine. The problem is, no one we know IRL has a dog.

If you get a puppy and raise it with the cats there will be no problem.

Then why do people eat rabbit? It really is not a common dish here. I can't think of the last time I saw it on a menu. Rabbits fall into the, really plentiful and small enough to eat even though they are cute, catagory. If they were bigger or less common they would not get eaten here. Oh and if they had more personality there would be all sorts of rabbit rescue groups.

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes I saw in the old thread. I saw Mum this evening and she's still not great. Very confused and drowsy, mostly due to pain and pain relief meds I think/hope. She's not eating or drinking a lot and they are having trouble keeping a drip in.

Believe it or not - even after the fall during the night, when I arrived she was STILL in a bed without bedrails/side guards. I spoke to one of the nurses while Mum was being taken for more x-rays (very calmly and politely - not sure how I managed it) and asked if it wouldn't be an idea to put some rails on the sides. Went to get a magazine while Mum was still in x-ray and by the time I got back, they were making up a new bed for her that had side guards on it :roll:

As regards the reason for the fall, they seem to be working on the theory that it is mostly down to a 'water infection' that has caused both fall and confusion. They have only now been able to start checking for that so I suppose they want to confirm or rule out that theory before moving on to any others :?. They had not planned to do a CT scan unless she became more confused :mad:. Both my sister and I have said how concerned we are at the level of drowsiness and confusion and the doctor has now put her on the list for a CT scan tomorrow.

Don't know when they're planning on resetting the bones as I didn't get a chance to speak to the doctor. They may be waiting on the x-rays they took this evening to see if she broke her hip or anything in her fall last night - and yes, I do realise how long the gap is between the fall and the x-ray. They will probably only be discussing the results in the trauma meeting tomorrow a.m. so we won't know more until then anyway :roll:

Anyway - I'll know more tomorrow. It's been a long and exhausting day. I'll try to pop in tomorrow evening to see what's happening.

Geez Mark, it sounds a bit rough for your Mother. I really hope that they get this sorted out soon, it seems like medical care there can be as slow as it often is here. Only when it could be potentially fatal do they seem to move of something fast.

Went to get a magazine while Mum was still in x-ray and by the time I got back, they were making up a new bed for her that had side guards on it :roll:

As regards the reason for the fall, they seem to be working on the theory that it is mostly down to a 'water infection' that has caused both fall and confusion. They have only now been able to start checking for that so I suppose they want to confirm or rule out that theory before moving on to any others :?. They had not planned to do a CT scan unless she became more confused Both my sister and I have said how concerned we are at the level of drowsiness and confusion and the doctor has now put her on the list for a CT scan tomorrow.

Don't know when they're planning on resetting the bones as I didn't get a chance to speak to the doctor. They may be waiting on the x-rays they took this evening to see if she broke her hip or anything in her fall last night - and yes, I do realise how long the gap is between the fall and the x-ray. They will probably only be discussing the results in the trauma meeting tomorrow a.m. so we won't know more until then anyway :roll:

Anyway - I'll know more tomorrow. It's been a long and exhausting day. I'll try to pop in tomorrow evening to see what's happening.

Thanks again. This is a really great place.That's terrible Mark. It makes me grateful for our much maligned health care system. CT would be done and results read within minutes of arriving at hospital as a head trauma insurance or no insurance. Continued signs of a decreased level of consciousness would result in an MRI and results the next day in most cases. Concussions can really knock one loopy for awhile. Combine that with pain meds and she may seem worse than she is. Hang in there I know how hard these things are.

Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes I saw in the old thread. I saw Mum this evening and she's still not great. Very confused and drowsy, mostly due to pain and pain relief meds I think/hope. She's not eating or drinking a lot and they are having trouble keeping a drip in.

I'm sorry to hear of your family issues Mark. My thoughts with your Mum.
