What flash to buy?

Hello!

What flash should I buy? I want it cheap, but refresh-rate should not be very long.

What to choose? Is to be used for portaits and skiing. Is to be used with 40D and Mark II...

- Canon 430 EX
- Canon 550 EX
- Canon 580 EX
- Sigma 500 DG
- Sigma 500 DG Super
- Sigma 530 DG
- Sigma 530 DG Super
- Vivitar 285HV
- Any other?

It always depends ;)

I use the sigma 500 dg super, the price of the 430, and power of 580. Mine flash refreshes quite fast using rechargable batteries. Can also be a slave triggered optically.

But if you want the best thing for your money, the Canon is the way to go, also they are built better. I like my Sigma though ;)

Im gonna also go with the 500 DG super, i have one myself and i love it! The non super isn't worth the money so pass on it.

Non super you dont get any sort of Master function when in the super you do.

Does it have any effect when I am only using one - 1 - flash?

1 flash wouldn't matter ;) But what's the price difference? Also check the difference between the 500 and 530. If the difference is small, might as well get the latter.

Don't know, take a look on BH and compare. But Im sure the 530 would have some sort of advantage since it's newer
