So..

It all started 9 years ago when my wife at the time my girlfriend asked me if i would do her a favor.

Her cousin had died in a car accident and worked as a pro at the local golf course. In his honor her family wanted to do a "Mark and Friends Golf Game" and i was asked if i would help out and photograph.

At the time i really did not know much but so i grabbed my trusty Kodak i believe it was and hit the course and shot all i could.. got 4somes, just some fun stuff.. most of it was unusable :D But i was fun..

I have progressed into SLR and been shooting the same event every year for the last 8 years to the point this year i had to have a friend help me out as it was just too much for one person.

SO the reason for the post.

About a month ago i heard that one of the gentlemen who has played every year for the last 8 years with his 3 sons passed away. Golf was the one thing he loved and being friends with one of his sons it was said that the family was really upset because they did not have any pictures of him. Having a busy schedule and not spending much time with the family they did not seem to have much to remember him by.

After hearing this i got on my computer and started going through my files.. Yes i have images dating back to 1998 :D So i went through all my "Mark and Friends" folders and files and found about 60 pictures with him in it.. Everything from his foursome shots from every year to just standing at the bar talking with friends at the Dinner Dance after the game.

Well i took all 60 shots had 4x6's printed and put them into an album and dropped them off to the family last week! Well i have never gotten soo many hugs and kissing by sooo many freaking people in one day! And i gotta tell you it made me feel SOOO dam good!

Just wanted to share, as you just never know when you might wish you kept some images that you decided where no longer needed!

That was a genuinely nice thing to do. It would have been easy for someone to charge to put that much work into it, but you realized the importance of the family memories.

That's awesome. Dang Mike, despite everything that's happened to you, you keep going. This was great. It's hard to believe that for me this started 6 years ago and 4years digital getting my XT Christmas '04 I have my first shot still.

Hey guys,

Thanks, I know we are in the business of making money but i could not try and capitalize one something like that. It was asked if i could provide a CD with the images on it as some of the other family members where hoping to get copies and i just gave it to them.

If anything maybe they will think of me later down the road when they have photography needs.

As for everything that has happened to me, I can honesty say i have kind of laid back a bit and not pushed so hard to get in like i was.. Now i seem to just grab my gear and shot things that don't talk back or move.. lol

Not i gotta call the dam police cause some society reject just broke into my car :(

Michael, that was just fabulous.

I did a (somewhat) similar thing a couple years back. My oldest was in a dance recital, and being "Dad with a 20D" I could actually get some decent shots (flash was a no-no).

I ended up shooting most of the recital "just because", PP'ed the images and shipped them off to CostCo to live in an online album. I sent the owner of the studio a link to the gallery and was overwhelmed by the response.

Seems that in all the chaos of producing their first recital nobody had remembered to even bring a camera. My photos were the only ones taken. :D

Too bad about your car, it wasn't the drunk - was it?

No just finished dealing with the police on it, a kid i guess around 15 popped my passenger side door and stole my Ipod and laptop case. Little did the kid know my camera bag was in the back seat with my 1D mark 3 and 2x 30ds with the laptop in the camera bag.. So he pretty much stole nothing.. lol

I keep my bag in my car cause my car is parked outside my window and i am in plain site.. this kid had balls. I will start bringing my bag in with me now.

wonderful story Michael. You really saved the day and made a lot of people very grateful during a stressful time. Good on your Mate!
