Hello dear friends,

It seems I cannot stay away long enough from photography.

I have sat on my bum for a few months, while I could have made some serious money photographing private events, and doing some press gigs.

At the time it felt like I was letting a "Hobby" take over my life (Rule 59, never listen to other people trying to tell you what to do) and so I let my divorce take over my photo business, losing both 1D bodies, all 12 lenses, flash units, etc.

Today I am at G10 and dying to start again. I need a miracle of sorts.

I placed this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=6744582#post6744582)on the WTB section.

Just looking for some help on good deals, simply looking for a decent camera to start with, along with three lenses and a flash unit (Something like a 30/40D, 10-20, 24-70, 70-200 and 430 flash). I wish I could just go to BH and purchase it brand new, but I am not remotely in that position.

I also wanted to hear some ideas as to how to acquire the bare minimum gear needed for such events, so that I can quickly return to the photo work.

My total money availability at this point is a little less than $2000, but ultimately I should be able to sell some of my manties online to get a few extra hundred dollars if needed.

Can you think of a priority, or any way to face this challenge?

Thanks in advance !!...

I'm surprised this thread didn't get a resonse; I located it after your 10D post.

I think that you'll need to be selective, and very frugal there.

For example, a good copy of the Sigma 24-60 f/2.8 would help the 'normal' range, there's another Sigma in the 10MM range which, again, good copy it works.

The 70-200, as you know, is more tricky, because you can't fake it.

I noticed you're also selling your Epson.

Sorry all of this happened to you.

I hope you're picking yourself up, dusting off, and going out shooting.

Thanks man.

I am absolutely determined. And I am confident it will happen.
Nothing else to it. The rest is to analyze five years from now.
:)
Thanks for the advice. I may get my hands on a 24-60. I have always been a wider angler shooter anyways(17-35 was always my favorite and most used range).

Cheers,

dude, sorry for your recent misfortune -- we are all here rootin' for ya! if there's anybody i know who can pull through this, it would be you mario ... good luck on your search ... nothing wrong with an all Sigma lineup -- 10-22, 24-70, 70-200.

The Gods have been awfully kind to me. What started with a 10D body, has now become a 20D with a 50mm and battery, charger, etc. Thanks to the generousity of a fellow POTNer.

My philosophy -for those who do know me- is to never leave another photographer behind. and it's been great to feel the support from this community. Not because someone gave me a good deal on gear, quite the contrary, what counted most was that they did it because they were good people.

That's what this forum is about. Not just folks with Canon. But good people who take photos.

Thanks everyone, I am on my way.
