Flash Question

Can the 550ex flash that is mounted on the camera be only used to trigger other flashes like the st-e2? I want the flash mounted on the camera not to fire but the other 550ex to fire.

You can do that, use the 550EX as the master and set it to not fire. It will only send IR to the slaves.

Considering I did not get a manual with my flash, "page 57" does me no good! Is it really that hard to spell it out for me??

The link to the 550 manual PDF at the Canon Germany site's been posted here before. Have you done a search on this site for "550 manual"?

Basically, hit "Sel/Set" until the flash gun icon is selected, then set it to "Off". If that's not crystal clear, you'll appreciate why I referred you to the manual. A picture is worth a thousand words.

No, you don't want it to be doing any pre-flash, because that would affect metering at the camera. When the 550EX is set as a master with no flash, it will still dribble out the command data to the slaves, and they will do their proper pre-flash and main flash.
