I think I'm going to order a beauty dish tomorrow and was wondering if there is any reason why I shouldn't go with the Paul Buff dish (uneven illumination, additional color cast, ect). I will be purchasing the Kacey grid as well.
Thanks

Hi Robert,
If you already own Alien Bees strobes then there's no reason not to go with the Alien Bees beauty dish. There is no color cast and all dishes have some degree of unevenness with a central hot spot. The deflector in the center of the dish will enlarge the hot spot and give more even coverage. The diffusion sock is also available to soften the light from the dish.
In my opinion there's no reason not to get the dish from Paul Buff.
If you want you can perform the mod to the Speedotron dish to add the Alien Bees/Balcar mount but I don't think it's worth the time and effort.

Ok, ordered on yesterday; it will be here Thursday. Jerry Kacey (of Kacey Grids) will be dropping off a grid and bag for the beauty dish on Sunday. Should be a post up using the grid on the G&N forum by the end of this weekend.

A little plug for Jerry Kacey, he was kind enough to drop off a grid and bag at my house yesterday. I was instantly impressed by how ruggedly made both the grid and bag are. If anyone is considering picking up these items there is no reason to hesitate; they are quality. I could do a review and post pictures; however, I think the video he has on his website paints a very honest picture of his products.
Cheers.
