View Full Version : Separate the Lens Archives for FF and APS-C ?

The images produced by a lens on Full Frame and APS-C formats bear little resemblance to each other. The field of view, depth of field, barrel distortion, and vignetting change drastically. Images produced by a 17-40L on 5D, for example, look nothing like images from that same lens on a 50D. Same goes for a 28-135 IS, which is a wide angle zoom on Full frame but acts more like a telephoto zoom on APS-C.

Isn't it about time for each lens to have a separate archive for full frame, and for APS-C format? For example:
Archive Image Samples for EF 17-40mm f/4.0L on Full Frame
Archive Image Samples for EF 17-40mm f/4.0L on APS-CAny thoughts?

yea i doubt that..probably impossiable to break up the images on there now like that
Now I can see if you made 2 links with FF and APS-c and have the lenses for APS-c in their own section that could work but not the way u want

Like FF would have the Canon 17-40L, canon 16-35, sigma 70-200 and APS-c would have the Tamron 17-50, sigma 18-50 etc..

That pretty much sums it up for me too.

I'm fine with the way it is. If I really want to know which format it was shot in I would generally look at the person's sig and find out what gear they're using. Or check the picture's EXIF, or if I was really curious in knowing, I'd just PM the person.

Though for 99% of the time I view pictures, I simply don't care what format it was shot in. A nice picture is a nice picture to me; XTi vs 1ds MKIII and all that jazz.

also with the zooms there are pictures from different focal lengths that give a different FOV...i think it's fine the way it is...

Oh, that's easy. I'm pretty sure we've seen the last of the 1.3x crop factor with the 1Dmk3, so there's no point in making an archive for it. ;-)

I'm surprised that I'm the only one wishing for separate archives for FF and APS-C. A lot of times, I would only be interested in the FF samples from these archives. It's a pain to wait for my browser to download every one of the samples in the page, when in fact I'm interested in only a small portion of it.

no pain no gain. Don't be lazy my friend.

I think we need an archive of every different focal length for each zoom.

I do appreciate it when people have in their sig what they are using, I always look but come to think of it I don't have it in mine, anyway I'll show you mine if you show me yours ;-)

I chewed it over, and spat out a qualified "no" vote.
There is no doubt that it would be useful to have rapid access to images from any body/lens/focal length/aperture/subject distance/crop/light source/sharpening level/focus mode/day of the week combination, but a forum thread is not the right tool for the job.

Best bet is to petition google to implement an image search based on EXIF data.

" Separate the Lens Archives for FF and APS-C ? "

What about an archive for each lens, on each Canon DSLR  No?

I think we need an archive of every different focal length for each zoom.

Or an Archive of threads asking for new forums? :)
