This was one of my first shots with the 50D along with a 135mm F2 L; ISO 1000, F2.3, 1/400, tripod (I'm 70 and a little shaky). Raw conversion using DPP...all is new to me. My granddaughter was starting her dismount from the dreaded beam. She was the all-around winner in her class. The 135 is rented; I'm waiting for the arrival of the Canon 17-55MM 2.8 IS. This forum offers a lot of great info, and I appreciate it. Bob

Congrats!
That gym must be unbelievably well lit!
Oh, and welcome to POTN!

Congratulations to you and your granddaughter. I've been waiting to see some gymnastic photos from the 50d. It looks like a very good choice for this very hard to shoot sport. I'm sure you will be getting the 85mm f1.8 soon. It seems to be a mandatory lens for shooting gymnastics.

The gym ligthing wasn't all that great. I have grandkids in basketball, soccer, volleyball and gymnastics.....ah, let's see...I'll need the 85, and the 70-200 2.8, the 300 F4, ...probably wouldn't hurt to have the 50 1.4, ...gosh, I did like the 135 f2 also...well, that should do it. First thing I'll do is take a loan on the house and heat the garage, because that's where I'll be sleeping after I buy all this stuff. Thanks for the input. Bob

Do you have any extra room in your garage? When I get all that equipment even my garage won't be a safe hiding place.

In starting to shoot in raw I'm noticing a loss in resolution when converting to jpeg. Is this normal, or am I missing something? 8)
