A new toy arrived via the dude in the Big Brown Truck (he told me they want to race the truck:))
Since it is wicked cold out right now and I really did not want to freeze, I slapped it on the MKII and snuck up on Jessie. Seems she is getting used to this or has forgotten what a PITA I am:):)
MKII + Canon 300 F/4,wide open, converted in CS1, levels adjusted in PSCS with a very light shot of USM.
The two things that caught my attention with this lens is 1) how close you can focus. 2) how shallow the DOF is when shot wide open.

I don't know, Ian. I think Jessie needs a little more mascara on her eye lashes.
Anyway, for a second there, I thought you were going to say that your 300 f/2.8 lens had arrived. That would have made me turn GREENER than I already am (after seeing pics from Sheldon and Tom).
Congrats! Now get out there and go shoots some more GGO pics before they head up north again. Or did they already?

If this were the 300 f/2.8 I'd be joinig Jessie in her dog house:):):)
Going out on Saturday to check on the GGOs. Hopefully there are still a few around.

Really nice picture. Gotta love this lens.
Hmmm, when my black lab hears the USM on the 300 f/4 he comes running to check out and disturb whatever I'm taking a picture of. The USM has called him from over 60 feet away :(

Kewl that it is the IS version. I keep hearing people saying it's not as sharp as the older non-IS version. However, that is probably only the pixel peepers.
IanD, I know that is the MKII, but is it the 1D or 1Ds?

But doesn't that area start with a "G", not an "A"? ???

Do a 180 Leo and you've got the right spot. Somewhat like the letter A followed with a couple of dollar signs.http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

OK, I did the 180 but I'm still looking at the same thing I started with when I look down. ???

I always thought PITA meant pain in the aft.
But then, I used to be a sailor.
Nice picture, Ian. Jessie now looks like she's finally become oblivious to your constantly shoving big white things in her face. Sweet dog.

Well, it was the 300 - so it wouldn't have been quite in her face, I hope. Maybe he's managed to get the range that''ll let her try to ignore him in hopes he'll go away.
My problem's the other way around. Noseprints on every lens I've ever tried to photograph our dogs with. And they ask why I use filters!

Sorry dris, should have said MKII 1D.

Ah, ok.
I haven't seen many 1DsMKII pictures yet, so I was curious.
I just noticed that you took that picture at 1/80th of a second! That's amazing!
