Very simple,
I've been offered a spot as a VAL at a studio shoot next week, and will be expected to set up the lighting etc etc - all good news....
However, what does VAL actually stand for - am I missing something obvious?
TIA

Have not got the foggiest??? But you took the 'job' without asking! Its a bit like accepting the role of MT or MA at the local hospital just because it sounded interesting Note - MT or MA used to be the abbreviation for Mortuary Technician/Assistant
I hope someone can answer this as you have me puzzled and I hate a mystery?

Well... in for a penny, eh? The job is actually with a pro friend at a studio I know pretty well so I could just ask him, I thought that it may be so obvious though, that someone would know or work it out and save me looking daft.... (too late for that etc etc)
