OK folks...I am having fun with my new DSLR but I am still trying to get a handle on all the technical jargon. I would like a more solid base of knowlege of the basics than I currently have...

So what do you suggest...A Basic Book or an Online Course?

I suggest you look around your area for a night class or something like that, I did one, and it was a great introduction for me.

I'd go with an online course, or a local class in your area. For some reason I always learn better when a teacher is envolved....and reading seldom holds my attention.

Looking for a local class is out of the question...I am in Ulsan, South Korea and if they did offer a course it wouldn't be in English I can assure you of that...

SO it is either online course or a book...

There's a sticky thread in this forum that will give you books: this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=53846). It doesn't matter what language the course is in, so long as you speak the language, obviously! Aperature is just a hole after all, no matter what language.

Tim,

Thanks...I ahve read the sticky on possible books and will likely order a few...I am just curious if anyone has tried one or the other or both and has some suggestions...

Does any one have experience with the New York Institute of Photography? They offer two courses, one in digital the other in traditional. A friend says they're good but I'd like to get some other opinions...

I learnt most of my photography from Books, and magazines, you could subscribe to some photomagazines in UK - Digital Photo is one I know of

Overseas website

They have some great Videos on using photoshop, and is a magazine I still have a subscription too.

they also do Practical Photography, which is a magazine I used to take monthly

and discussing with other photographers. however, that was before the online age ;)
There are so many tutorials on the web from very basic on photography to advanced on photoshop, also in free Videos.

The Bureau of Freelance Photographers also do a home study course, I have NOT attended
http://63.84.172.37/frames.html

The BFP home study correspondence course will teach you how to produce the type of photos that sell. We'll show you how to produce pictures that will appeal to magazines, book publishers, newspapers, calendar and card producers.

The Course is presented in two handsome volumes containing 18 lessons with assignments which you complete and send in to your own personal tutor.

The Course lasts two years and during that time you also get our monthly Market Newsletter detailing markets available for pictures.

Check out morguefile.com and go to "classroom". I've learned a lot there.
