Hi all,
I went to a local car clubs track day and took some pictures.
I got some great shots. My question is there is a guy that wants to get a hi-res file of his car. He says he wants to look it over and may put it into print. I don't know how to go about doing this. What should I ask him about the printing, should I charge, watermark it?

Thanks

Here is his message:

Hey, I am the picture of the Black Trans Am in your post and am wondering if you could send me the original high res. copy to my email...I would like to see it bigger and maybe have it put into print! My email is:
xxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxx.xxx

thank you for taking such nice pictures, Patrick

I would guess by his email that he wants it for free. I'd send him a high res with a big intrusive watermark on it, and at the same time ask him what he means by putting it into print and let him know there will be a charge for the unwatermarked file depending on usage.

Thanks we will see what he has to say about it.
Any other advise on where to go if he gets it printed somehow?

I replied to him with this :

By putting it into print what do you mean?
How big do you want it?
It will be watermarked until we decide on what we are doing with it.
I am at work right now. I can send you a 1200x800 if you want to see it bigger. Any thing larger will have to be talked about.

Email it to him and he will have it for free.

Even with a huge watermark?

IMO he is after a freebie.

The fact that he is asking for the original Hi Res implies he knows what he is after. So if I were you I would make sure anything sent now in higher res has a prominent watermark with max opacity across one or two critical areas leaving enough "nice picture" for him to judge if he really wants it.

Also why not offer to sell the print??? Reason - with the sold hi res file he can go get it in a magazine etc and get paid for your efforts. I surmise anyone who wants the file for free would have no compunction ripping off your rights if you sold the file.

Just my 2p's worth.
