Pileated woodpecker is back!!

A sight like this makes me feel pretty good about my feeder setup. Also, the feedercam really comes in handy!

I hadn't seen the pileated woodpecker in several months so I was super excited to see her! Normally it's just the usual assortment of downies, hairies, red bellied, etc.

Just don't tell me about the squirrel. I already know about that and keep trying different things to keep it off. Then I get all these people from all over sending me screen captures of the stupid squirrel!! ;)

Great bird.....I have quite a few in the woods in the backyard but have never been able to attract them to feeders....any great secrets?

Glad to see the Pileated back.

Can you tell me how the feeder she is in is made? Like does it have a screen/mesh bottom? If so how is it supported?

I bought the feeder at a bird store. But you're correct, it does have a screen bottom. It's supported with some wood braces a long the bottom. The whole thing is screwed into the 4x4 post. I can't remember the brand name of the feeder. The woodpeckers don't get in there too often, usually they are on the suet logs or peanut feeder.

I think you should get them a little TV and a small couch to go on that feeder. :)

Heh, I'm sure they'd enjoy that. Some of those guys just camp out all day on that tray. Probably not too good of an idea, given that the local Cooper's hawk knows all about it. ;)
