Its not that bad...just not as good as some of your work that I've seen. You're right, the nifty is often a little tight for indoor shoots....and sometimes with kids a little wide for outdoor shoots....but its an awesome lens, especially for the price (f1.8), isn't it?

I think i just really need to get used to the lens. i mean, I havebeen using Nothing but the kit for so long. It feels wierd to have anything but, in my hands ya know? and yes its 1.8

Yup, I like the nifty, but I find it is just slightly too long on a 400D.

the fifty is a great lens, i have used it numerous times...i really like it. It takes a bit to get use to a new lens, especially if you are going from the kit lens. However, i do want to know what type of pp you did on this picture? Dont take this the wrong way, but it looks like there was way too much pp done on the eyes. I have noticed that there are a few people on this board that end up way over-doing the eyes by trying to bring attention to them in PP. They just look way oversharpened and it almost makes them actually look a bit oof to me.

they are OOF i can give you that, as for over sharpening. I actually hadnt sharpend at all. All i did was brightened them up. Her eyes really are about that color. and with natural light shining in, thats what i got

They just look oversharpened. but i have noticed that looking into direct sunlight will make them look very sharp and crystal like, that isnt a bad thing, but i guess since they are a bit OOF, it made them look like you had sharpened them more. I have really been impressed with your natural sunlight pictures that you have been sharing. Keep up the good work.

The nice part about the nifty thrifty 50 is you wont cry if you drop it. You can just go out and buy another.

I like the shot. It would be better if red wasn't there in the dress and bg was white.
I don't know why folks say 50mm is long indoors particularly if doing head shots like the posted shot. My kid is only 3 months old and here I was using > 150mm and I was only 5-6 feet away.

Maybe it is just me as I am used to shooting with 500mm f4.

Cute photo.. The nifty fifty takes a little while to get use to it and I found that it was hit and miss on the focus but when it hit the photos were amazing.. I think your eyes are just a tad to sharp in this photo.. not much but a little.. TFS...
