I am not really into HDR except for occasionally playing with it, but sometimes a man's gotta' do what a man's gotta' do. So I did.

This is along Alaska's Inside Passage late last spring. Although the lighting made it a candidate for HDR, I just hate doing HDR images where water is involved because I don't like the blurring. This is from three shots -- nominal exposure along with +/- 1.67 stop shots. Photoshop was used to merge the images.

Nice one Bill. Looks like the waves didn't blur much in this one.

Thanks, Mitch.

The three shots were done in less than one second, so wave motion wasn't too bad. I also applied some USM sharpening selectively to the waves that were up close to improve the apparent sharpness. Being on a boat that was underway had me concerned about getting good image registration in addition to wave motion.

To prevent blurring in a hdr image, simply put the correctly exposed image of the water (or image you like of the water the best) on the bottom. Overlay the hdr image and in this case erase out the water. Just a tip :)

thanks for sharing Bill, the 50% full size version looks much better to me. I bet this one would look good in B/W as well.

Your point is well taken, because I have actually thought about doing what you describe by erasing the water from the HDR version and then laying it over a properly exposed single image of the water. I guess the thing that has held me back from trying it is getting the images properly aligned since this was done hand held.

Thanks for the comment. I thought that the big image might be a tad overwhelming in size, but I did like the light on the water in the bigger version.
