Hi shutter people

I will be needing a flash for this camera but don't have a lot of dough to spend.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dough, as in how much dough?

The first 430EX is going for $200 new on Amazon.com. If that's still too much, try Craigslist or something for the 420EX or 380EX or w/e. I'd say go for the 430EX because i find the two-button approch to turning the flash head to be very annoying.

I have the Sigma ef-500 DG flash and it works quite well on my SX10 IS. I used to use it with a Canon XTi which I sold to buy the SX10.

You can buy it here for $109:

I use the Sto-Fen Omni Bounce Diffuser with it and use it all the time, I really reccomend it. You can get it here:

Current model of the Sigma is the EF-530.

Whoops, I did not realize they replaced it. I just posted two shots taken with mine here:

6th post down on the second page.

Apparently the new EF-530 model does not work well with the newer Canons with E-TTL, per feedback on Amazon. Plus the price is too close to a new Canon EX430 to justify going non-Canon.

That is too bad. My EF-500 DG flash seems to work very well with my SX10 and it was great with my XTi. Sometimes progress sucks.

DennisA bunch of people had trouble getting the EF 500 models to behave well in off-camera E-TTL, both in all-Sigma and in mixed environments, whether the Sigma was master or slave. I stopped spending much time in the flash forum about 18 months ago, but certainly between 2-3 years ago there were a number of people reporting that.

I would buy the Canon 430 EXII - it's a good flash and useful if you ever wanted to use it as a slave flash later on in your photographic career

I'm using a Sunpak PZ40x with my SX1. I'm not the most advanced user but, it seems to be satisfying all my shooting needs. The ability to bounce the flash has made a dramatic difference in the quality of my shots. E-TTL works as advertised. It may not be as powerful as the Canon flashes but, for half the price of those, I think it's a good fit. Plus, asthetically, it fits my SX1 well.
