Trains 4 pics

I just had to get out of the house. I never did trains before but what the heck, i'll give it a try. Found a quiet crossing and here is what I got.

#1 is Amtrack passenger frome Richmond Va to Washington DC. It could could take a prize in the ugly train contest. :)

#2 #632 had 2 motors and 92 cars.

#3 and 4 are train # 6151. Had "8" !!! motors. Only 132 cars, must have been dead heading some engines somewhere.:?

It looks like engine #8 (8530) in the last shot has a bit of rust.

Shots 2 and 4 are pretty amazing Jerry. Very nice. Our trains here certainly don't have the colors that yours do. Pretty boring colors on them here.

All shots are good, but I like the color of #2 best. I gues you could call the Amtrak a "plain train"?

Marie, I grew up with trains, my Dad was a conductor on the RF&P RR out of Richmond. I have been lucky enough to ride a Deisel engine, caboose car and mail car, places few outsiders ever got to, when i was a kid 50 or so years ago :) I have always loved trains and wished I could have ridden a steam locomotive but only got ot sit on one in the yard. I just never took pictures of them. Last year I started on flowers and took over 1000 pic's of them, then went to birds because I could do it at home, now trains are a bit more trouble, :) you gotta go and wait on them! but I still have a lot of fond RR memories.

as you said you lived so close I suspected you saw a lot more of them then most but just never took the shots.

sometimes I ring the station and if anyone is there (it's a country station) I ask what time the trains are due
those flying through and those which stop to pickup.

many people use them to ride into the city (about 25 miles)
and the other way the trains go way down south
change for Galway and the west.
if I know the times I stand on the little humpback bridge for the best shots.
hard to get a real good shot of the trains
so I appreciate whatever you all get

as a child we used trains a lot to visit relations in county monaghan
we lived in the suburbs of the city (Dublin) near the mountains
got a big special taxi (six of us kids and ma and da) to ride to the big city station
what a thrill to catch the train then
when I got older I used sometimes bring my bicycle, my dog ( on a lead and let free in uncle's fields when I arrived) :lol: and my luggage on the train to visit the relations there


during my later school years, for one week I mitched
just to sit and watch the trains in that station
as I missed all what they represented , the visit to county monaghan,
the place... the countryside , the relatives
and the train trip

I only told mam near the end of her life
and she laughed
could hardly believe it .. that I had done that
but she enjoyed hearing it very much
