I have a ton of images that I just want converted to .jpg and reduced in size so I can have previews of hte images I took. At the moment it's a pretty tedious job to find out which images are which since the raw files can't be preview in Explorer. So is there anything that will do what I need. Also the other reason I want this is if I want to give my friends images, they preffer jpg, so I just want to convert them and sent them as is for them to view. Any freeware out there? Or maybe Photoshop CS can do that for me?

U can use canon file viewer utility.
Just select the files, file->save file->extract save jpeg
And you can batch resize in zoom browser ex.

Depending on how you have your camera set up, all RAW files have imbeded files. Try using those. They are usually of the TIFF or JPEG format.:) Or simply change the camera to JPEG.

A long time ago I found some freeware called CRW Thumbnailer, because my RAW files have the .CRW extension. Once that was installed, it allows Explorer to show thumbnail images of the real file. That works for me.

What you need is dpMagic... http://www.dpmagic.com One version of this program is free, the other with several extra neat features is only $10.00. It allows you to view raw files in Explorer just like they were jpgs. It works with raw files from most cameras. Check it out.

You'll find that many of the non-Canon conversion programs are based on an open source utility called DCRAW. Since I do most of my work in Linux, I wanted a way to do batch conversions, like you, and then do a more manual conversion of the pics I really liked. I was really disappointed with how all of the DCRAW-based utilities converted the RAWs from my 20D. This may be due to how new the 20D is (and the DCRAW code not fully supporting it), but all of my pictures had REALLY BAD noise and often had overblown green channels when using the auto settings. It was pretty depressing that my JPEG mode pictures looked better than any of my RAW pics even after spending an hour post-processing them.
Needless to say, I ended up installing a windows image inside QEMU (a linux x86 emulator) and am now using the Canon DPP application to do my batch conversions. The 'latency' is high, in that it takes overnight for my pictures to transfer into the emulator image and convert them, but it doesn't take more than about 5 minutes of my time. Since most people on this forum seem to have access to a native Windows box, I'd recommend using the batch conversion feature of DPP.
