i have a number of rainbow pictures where the rainbow is rather flat
what photoshop procedures can be used to give a rainbow more "punch"

nice, very nice. I went to university of denver. still miss colorado. here is my go at it, please note i did this in 2 minutes. I duplicated the background layer and masked off all but the rainbow. I then adjusted the curves to bring out more color. layered the two back together and blended them. You can bring out more color just by adjusting the curves and color levels. Or you could brush in some color on the rainbow. I am curious how others would do this.

Another way to say that is to use a brush to brush on color saturation. However, ease it up very slowly, or else it will look completely fake.

I did a quick fix with PhotoImpact with the "tone map" - turned down (darkened) the shadows about 10 points and turned up the highlights a little, then added a few points of saturation. It might take a little more tweaking to get the effect you want.
Not sure how you would do that in PhotoShop.

thanks all
tupe = i especially like the low light white band your tweak created
modified rainbows can be easily made to look artificial
i the past i have tried to take a rainbow from one picture andf add it to another - that is really difficult and have never been sucessful at that.
