View Full Version : Are there multiple versions of ZoomBrowser 5.0

I have a G3 - about 18 months old.

I recently downloaded and installed the ZoomBrowser 5.0 updater [I had been using v4.6]. I liked it a little better, but not perfectly, because it relied on the old FileViewer Utility to do RAW conversions [i.e., when I hit the Process RAW files button].

I was interested enough in it that I asked Canon tech support where I could get a manual on ZoomBrowser 5.0, and they directed me to the support files for a G6. Since it's a newer camera, it came with ZB 5.0.

So I downloaded the ZB 5.0 manual and read through it. I was amazed by the features on the RAW conversion tool within ZB 5.0. It showed all kinds of adjustments that you could make to the RAW file before conversion to another format - all from within ZB 5.0. It looked like I wouldn't have to use FVU anymore!

So I went back and checked out the ZB 5.0 on my computer - and these great features are nowhere to be found. I checked the Canon web site, and I have the latest version of ZB 5.0 downloaded [as an updater].

Does anybody know whether the updater version of ZB 5.0 is different than the version that comes with a G6? Is there a way I can get this better version of ZB 5.0 to work with my G3?

There is only one version of Zoom Browser for any given version number. However, what's different is how they work with the different cameras. It will behave for the G3 differently than for the G6, only because the two cameras have different features or implementation of those features.

As PacAce says, I think there is only one version of Zoom Browser for any given version number.

I just talked to Canon tech support about this.

There are two versions of ZoomBrowser EX 5.0. For those of us that have older cameras, the updater version of ZB 5.0 you download from the web-site does not have the same RAW image conversion features as the ZB 5.0 that comes with a G6, for example.

If you want to get ZB 5.0 that has the new RAW conversion software, you have to buy Solutions Disk 21, for $19.95 + tax + $6 s/h.

I bought it to try it out. I will repost if it works and if it is any better than File Viewer Utility.

I've not been happy with the output of any other RAW conversion software - except maybe BreezeBrowser. Canon knows how to convert Canon RAW.

Need to update folks on this one. PacAce is correct. The software is all the same - it just works differently depending on the kind of camera that generated the RAW file. The new RAW conversion features in ZoomBrowser 5.0 only work with the most recent models, such as the G6. For a G3, and G5, ZoomBrowser still shifts you over to FileViewer Utility for RAW conversions.

Makes me mad that everyone at Canon I talked to told me otherwise and I ordered the disk [can get a return] and installed it.
