Hiya,
I'm new to flash, Will the 430EXII help with low light focusing like the ST-E2 does, even if your not fireing the flast itself?

Yes, you can set a Cfn so that the flash will not fire. This is done in the camera menu. Also, make sure that he AF assist is enabled in the Cfn menu as well.

As I recall, some XT bodies does not have CF to turn off the flash. But set the 430 to minimum power or point the flash away from the subject should take care of that.

Thank you, i'm using a 400D at the min, not many CFN's to use but i'll check it out.

Looks like Lotto is right again. I don't see that option in the 400D's Cfn menu. There is this on page 48 of the manual though. Would this do anything with an external attached? I honestly have no idea.
