View Full Version : Question about formatting Head Shots

Recently I've been doing head shots for actors and I've been asked by some to format the images as you see head shots presented to agencies where the image has a white border and the persons name is on the image.
Does anyone have any templates or examples that I can copy so I can format the images and print them for the clients?

This guy (http://studiomark.com/headshots-learnmore.html) shoots medium format and prints 7x7 on 8x10 paper. I assume that would mean cropping square and increasing your canvas size in PS to 8x10 , leaving the added space white, and adding a text box at the bottom for the actor's name....

Thanks but there are no examples or templates to see or copy, so unfortunately that's no help.

Thanks again. I have no problem creating and formatting the image. My question was regarding a standardized format or the format that is used most of preferred by the agents or people that receive head shots.
Is the method of formatting completely random or is there a standard?

After posting I did a little reading here
http://bbs.backstage.com/eve/forums
and it seems there may be a difference of opinion on the subject
Maybe it depends on the market or agency where the actor works or maybe it really doesnt matter as long as they have there info on there.
I read on a couple sites that promote the headshots they wanted contact info taped to the back, name on front.
I guess I havent helps much at all :(
I will do a little more searching as this is something Im getting into also ;)

Thanks man. That does help a little.
I've also been talking to many photographers that say they just add a white border to an 8 x 10 format (printed on 8 x 10 paper) and then the actors go to Kinko's and photocopy their resume or information on to the back of the photo.
It seems that there really is no standard and it depends on what the agent or agency is asking for.
From what I can tell, if the person asking for the photos does not give a specific size and/or format then you submit whatever you feel appropriate and if they need or want to see something else they will ask.
