So here's another edit what do you guys think? Shot with natural light while sun was setting.

her neck seems kinda odd to her shoulders, although nice shot

PP looks really good, lighting on model looks good, but...gotta agree that her pose looks uncomfortable.

Clone out the farside earring.
I like the pose and she looks great.
Hope you get to work with her more.

Hi Gabriel. I don't tend to photograph people, let alone models, so feel free to take the following with a pinch of salt. Another vote for PPing out the earring. Neck does look funny, though I didn't notice it in the 15 seconds I first considered the shot. Background's a bit mixed - soft tones are good - arguably a touch busy + dark looming shape on the left (with the silvery strip along the top) is unattractive and distracting. Background seems to slope, but if that were corrected she'd look somewhat stooped - head diagonally forwards - would be good if she were more naturally erect. Great looks though, and the facial skin tones and smoothing are flattering - tastefully done: so much so that all else is unlikely to get noticed. Still, bottom right of the photo's a bit of a dead zone, a little more in the shadows would have emphasised her figure and trim waist. Cheers, Tony

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thanks for the critic. I finally found a good way to edit the skin, http://i2.pbase.com/o1/mag/pbase_magazine_vol10_july2007.pdf that magazine has an article on page 10 it's worth checking. I will be doing another shoot with her soon so i'll try to pay attention to all this little technical mistakes.

Here is the biggist issue with the photography - the hotest lighting is on her neck, which is why everyone keeps focusing down there. There really is nothing wrong with the pose, it is just the lighting is emphasizing the wrong places. The swath of light should be up highlighting her eyes.

The way to balance that is to use a gold reflector to bring warm light back up on the face and balance out the overall lighting. You don't want to create an obvious warm area, but equalize the lighting to that the neck is not the area pulling in all the focus. The other option would be to bring in some more light in from the other side to soften the shadows. The shadow line from her chin is also emphasizing the lighting - softening that down would also bring focus back up to her eyes.

Otherwise, not a bad shot at all. Great skin tones and catch lights. Works for the most part for me.

Wow thanks thanks for the tips Mark, I'll edit the pic a lil and re post it. I've also been thinking of getting a couple reflectors but if i do the shoot solo how would I hold it on the right place?

what exactly did you do during post editing to get her skin so soft?
or is it naturally like that?

Check page 10 of that pdf, I lowered the opacity on the layer merged it with the and then I did some healing brush.

I did exactly as it told me but I adjusted the layer opacity so it didn't look that strong it says it at the bottom of page 12. I also used healing brush to make sure some blemishes were completely blending with the skin as if they were never there.

If you are doing this solo, then I would probably go with some off camera flashes then to get the same results. I would spend some time at the strobist.com... particularly how to really effectively use flash for outdoor shoots. That at David Blacks site has some great stuff too. With an assistant, a hand held reflector is the easiest way to go. But by yourself, a flash or two will do with some wizards.

I love it. I don't find the pose awkward

Try color correcting it, then warming it back up for the light you had.

If you want some people on POTN to take a crack at an edit, post the original as well.

BTW, very pretty model.

Call me crazy...but with no preconceptions, I like the original better. That's why they call it the "golden hour".

The second shot with the color temp neutralized....looks like a studio strobe shot.

I like that color too but I still don't know much on what looks better for what, I'm still experimenting.

If you are looking for portfolio shots or if she was looking for head shots, the first one isn't gone to work at all. The final is absolutely good enough for her portfolio.

Most of the shoots i do are for models, she isn't one though. So i guess i'll be doing more edits like the one i did to this for their books.
