My wife may be going to Dearborne Michigan the first week in May. I may tag along to shoot while she goes to training. Can anyone from that area tell me what would be available to shoot. I shoot mostly wildlife, nature and landscapes, but would be open to anything.

Thanks !!!!
Bill

Well, the Dearborn and Detroit area are not exactly the most scenic, interesting part of Michigan for outdoors and wildlife photography, but there are a few opportunities/interesting places to visit:

The Detroit Zoo (http://www.detroitzoo.org/critters2.html)

Henry Ford Museum (http://www.hfmgv.org/museum/default.asp) and Greenfield Village (http://www.hfmgv.org/village/default.asp)

There's always the Detroit River for nautical (freighter) images

Belle Isle Park (http://www.ci.detroit.mi.us/recreation/centers/M/belle_isle/belleM.htm)

At this site (http://travel.michigan.org/index.asp?m=0) you can search for things to do by category and distance from a particular city. Might be helpful.

If I think of any more I'll drop by the thread again and let you know.

The Crosswinds Marsh / Wayne County
A 1,000 acre wetland wildlife preserve with 5 miles of trails.
And a beautiful Bald Eagle .
If you need directions let me know.

BILLSH- As mentioned- "Greenfield Village" now known as "The Henry Ford" will provide a great cross section of subject matter for you. Many historic buildings were bought and transported to the site. There is a working farm with horse drawn plows, period costumes etc.
Go on line and look for Henry ford museum/village.

As mentioned- the Zoo is one of the best. Very few cage type displays- most are open air. Nice variety of animals.
See my gallery with a few shots at www.pbase.com/jpferguson

The Artic ring of life is awesome!

Contact me when you are near the date - maybe we can do a shoot together.

Course if you dont mind taking a trip to the otherside of michigan where I live ( Grand Rapids ), you can always visit Fredrick Meijer's Botanical and Sculpture gardens.

Jay has a good list. If you go to Belle Isle Park, be sure to look for the white deer that run free there.

Thanks Guys ! Sounds like some good suggestions. I'm hoping everything works so that I can go. If I do, it would be great to shoot with you Jon. When it gets closer, I'll see if we can make our schedules work.

Thanks
Bill
