Well, you won't be surprised to hear that the weather was somewhat inclement again today. Thankfully, I missed the worst of it when I was wiring my first batch of images from the car at half-time!

Here are a few of the pics...

I don't usually post many goals here. They're always newsworthy but they're often a bit dull to compared to some of the other action. This is no exception, but just for a change, here's a goal and a bit of a celebration...

Who's playing gmen? I don't recognise the opposition but I think the guy with dreads is familiar.

Muddy is RIGHT! Great action shots. Number 8 is different. You rarely ever see the interaction of fans and player like this. Nice work. :D

It's Grays vs Hornchurch - Andy Douglas is the guy with dreads... a bit of a heated encounter as you can probably imagine!

Thanks Ballen Photo... I think the fact the several of the fans are giving the scorer the 'thumbs-up' is quite amusing!... and talking of mud...

Nice shots.

Cheers cactusclay! Much appreciated... just hoping that I can post some non-muddy football pics at some point soon!

I saw the report and your pic of the goal in the Non League Paper. Do you get paid for those because I've been told that they are notoriously bad payers

Suffice it to say that I wouldn't be taking pics for the NLP if I had experienced any problems of that nature!

How do you get in a position to sell the pics in the first place? Is it something that us amatuers can try or is it generally despised by the pro's?

I always send in pics from our away games to the local paper (they don't pay me) but never send them any from the home games because there is always a pro there and I don't want to tread on any toes.

Do they publish your pics from the away games? If so, why give them away? There are plenty of freelancers out there making good money from shooting local sport.

The paper will almost certainly have a standard rate for freelance submissions. They'll either pay you for the 'job' - i.e. expect half a dozen pics to choose from for a fixed rate... or they'll pay you per picture published. It's swings and roundabouts as to what is the better deal.

As a freelancer you'll retain the rights to the pics. Make sure this is clear up front and discuss any other licencing issues. It will vary from paper to paper, but the local rags I work for direct the punters to me for any reprints.

The biggest problem you'll face is the fact that you've been giving away your pics so far. This will make it very, very hard to start invoicing the paper for them. Are there any other papers you can try instead?
