Sorry, but it will be a cold day in St Pete before I get any snow pictures here. I am impressed with your shots, fellas, especially where Ernst was hiking on top of the mountain. Gorgeous shot.

Just cause you said, *action* photos... I had to dig to find one. I usually find my lazy self in the bed on snowy days. But just snow... got lots... most are crap... but I have a lot of them!

Yes, activities in the snow. It's fun. Here you see me running downhill in the deep and soft powdery snow. I have red snow shoes on. Those prevent me from sinking too deep into the three feet deep layers of snow. If you want to see where I was hiking (and taking pictures) that week, see at:

I took this photograph on the way home last evening . . . I think this is as wide as my lens would go. A little on the dark side but I think you should get the point. I have three feet of snow on the ground in my back yard. I live just over the little brow of a hill you can see in the foreground, and then four miles south. The golden glow is the fog which has stayed for days . . . forcing me down South to shoot and see the sun.

Ernst, are you really still only using a G2 to capture these images??
And this one is just awesome! But I love ALL your pics! Fantastic subjects and wonderful compositions!
Sorry all, gotta travel 4 hours to see snow in California! Then it's a crap shoot to be there on a day it's actually snowing!

Snow in the Alps can be quite clean and have a sparkling reflective surface. I also liked the wind-carved rounded shape of the snow cap on top of the roof.
The reflective spots are visible much better in the lager size:

Yes, I have my G2 now for three years plus two weeks. 22'000+ shots. It's my first and only digital camera. Sometimes I'm told that I'm using my old non-SLR camera beyond its capabilities. But being aware of the old saying that was also true in non-digital times: "In 90% of times the capability of the camera is restricted by the person pressing the shutter", I am determined to use my camera as good as I can - and not to blame its limitations.
By the way the opical quality of the lens is great.

Well, your an inspiration to us all! Great stuff really!
And you've given me renewed hope for my G5 which I'm ready to offload in order to get some money for a 20D. I would probably be more willing to hold onto the G5 if I had the "Swiss Alps" as my backyard though!! ;)

thank you Jerry
really nice to see some pictures we may never have otherwise
this picture of mine was taken on the mountains nearby last week
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif
the rock shown here is very special
a fellow from a nearby townland was flying down the mountain road on his motorbike
he hit the rock, went over it and down.
he was killed.
the bike was found on the road about half an hour later by an army truck
there is a message from his wife and two children on the back of the rock
I have stopped by there a few times
it's a magical beautiful spot and he loved that part of the mountains very much
he and his friends used to go there on their motorbikes as often as possible

Well, here is this morning. After a long dry spell, we finally got a typical Colorado spring wet snow. :) Guess who put fertilizer and Revive on their yard yesterday!:) By the way shot with digital rebel and old 75-300 IS. I have othe lenses I like better, but could live with it if it was the only one.

Ok, this is from a while ago, but thought it had a snow theme so why not! It's not a picture taken by me, but of me.......getting pelted with the snowball! It was taken by a friend on his Nikon Coolpix 950 2mb camera (I know, I know, blasphemy here!). But it came out so well I thought I just had to share! And YES it nailed me hard, but I still got the pic I was aiming for with my old A2E film camera!

Yes, I'm originally from Switzerland. All my ancestors were farmers and used to live here. I lived here all my life so far. Of coure I have seen some other spots. I will go to San Francisco in two days from now. This will be my 46th time to fly to the US. I've seen only 23 states there.
This is my answer: I'm 100% Swiss.
