A month ago I rented a 400mm f/2.8L IS to take pictures of my highschool's varsity boys soccer team. Here are the results. This is my first time shooting soccer so C&C is more than appreciated.

Action looks good!
Were you using a 1.6 Crop body? These are fairly tight.
I would knock the saturation back a tad.
Nice shots.

Yup, a 40D. So I guess it's more like a 640mm.
Thanks

A couple of things:
1st - Try to keep exif data intact. That way C&C can be more detailed.
2nd - Number your photos so it is easier to tell you which shot we are talking about.
3rd - Try for the main three in every shot: Face, Ball, and Action.
With that said:
1 - Really not much action going on here. I guess you could crop out beginning with the ref on the right and use it for something.
2 - Almost there! Seemed to focus on the backs of the players in the front of the frame. What focus mode are you using?
3 - Did you crop out the defender or were you just in this tight? Would have been a good picture with more of the defender in the shot.
4 - No ball + No Opponent + No emotion = No Keep. ;)
5 - Another example where more information on your part would help for C&C. What was your shutter speed on this one? Are you using a monopod or hand held? F stop? Did you frame this tight or crop it that way?
6 - See 4.
7 - This one had the most potential out of the bunch. It looks like a way shallow DOF that resulted in the two defenders being in focus and your player being OOF.
8 - Throw in situations are one of the few predicable points in the game so I see the urge to shoot them. But they almost never tell a story.
Exposure looks pretty good on my monitor. Is your team still playing? Have you shot any soccer since last month?
