i recently switched to a 5D from a 40D and found out the 5D only syncs to 1/200

Nice shots Mike. I saw your series on Flickr first. I like #7 the best with the rim lighting. There was another shot very similar to #7 on your Flickr account that I liked even better. I think it was with the two of them looking at the camera.

are you using cactus triggers? or possibly using a 5d? either way the shutter speed is too high and its causing the shutter and lights to be off-sync, giving you that black bar at the bottom of your images.

I really like this series. Nice captures of emotion and lighting.

For the sync issue, you can always crop ;)

One small critique - watch out for her ams. When she presses them against her body like in #1 and #4, it's a little unflattering.
