1D vs. 20D vs. 40D

So since I just ordered my first scope I think its time to start looking for a new camera since I cant do long exposures with my 1D.

Would it be better for me to just buy a 20D of trade the 1D for a 40D?

I will still continue to do weddings and portraits and ofcourse landscape stuff. Iove my 1 series and will hate to let it go but I really want to get the most out of all my gear.

I have a 40D and find the live view very useful for focusing. Especially by hooking it up to my laptop as I can use live view on the laptop and even tweak lens focus (if using a camera lens) right on the laptop.
