Announced Thursday. Sad day indeed. Now that's Bronica and Contax. Wonder if Mamiya is next? They are apparently having major issues with their new camera. Hassy would likely be gone too if they had not sold out to a Japanese company that makes digital backs.

Leica is apparently having problems as well. Not sure how much longer the world will support the M7 camera. Are people still buying film?

What is the world coming to?

Ouch...I hope the other major players in Medium Format stay around.

Anyway, on a side note, The M7 played a major role in the movie Eurotrip.

I wish my wife had the same reaction that the camera girl did when she saw his M7.

Not all hope is lost yet. According to the article that Dpreview had, Kyocera may sell the Contax brand to someone else, so the name may live on.

So perhaps the same buyer will get Bronica, Contax, Leica, and Zeiss, and we will see a new DSLR - The Brontax, with Elmarit Summicron kit lens.

Have Fun,

Have Fun,

The name may stay alive, but who knows if the quality will :(

Also besides losing such a historical name (in terms of the photography industry), I am somewhat sad to see it go because there will be less players in the market, and therefore a higher emphasis on standardization, so Canon and Nikon will obviously be the big guys, but eventually if other comapnies die out (nikon included if they keep on there current track) there will only be one type of camera/lens system, the EOS system, yay!!! So then there are no worries about switching camera brands because who knows Canon might purchase them all and therefore every camera could use every lens.....thats in a perfect world of course. Prices would prolly skyrocket which sux :/ Thats my 2 canadian cents.

A while back, when Kodak announced the end of production on slide projectors, I heard that they were also slated to phase out consumer 35mm film within 5 years.

It's a changed world indeed...

If they do that it would be the worst thing they ever did. If they did that they would have NOTING. Have you ever used their digital cameras??? It was sad....

even with the digital backs... after another generation of sensors will be introduced (I canon keeps going like this, by next year we'll have a 22MegaPixel DSLR for under $5000 :D), it will kick the crap out of all the medium format stuff. My uneducated prediction is that Hassleblad and other medium format cameras won't have a much longer life.
