I've been visiting Magnum's list of photographers almost daily, going through the photos of many of the worlds greatest photojournalists; I am not actually drawn to that type of shooting but love looking at this site.
Are there other respected sites/links to places where I can look for inspiration and approaches to photography other than my own, after decades of commercial work I still find myself stuck in styles of composition so hardened and accepted that they reach a level of boredom. It's almost automatic and I'm trying to develop new ways of seeing.
Golden Mean, Thirds, all of that is as reliable as an MBA from Harvard was to business success, but looking back at the times when Photojournalism was so powerful, especially the affect of black and white photography, I've been startled by how effective the seemingly incorrect compositions in these photographs reign supreme and hold my attention, as if the only formula to compositional success was capturing the moment which we all try for but they did it so well that in spite of breaking all the rules, their work seems somehow balanced and definitely stunning.
Granted this is a very generic statement covering a lot of life's work put out by many great photographers so I suppose I should say that the above is the affect this body of work in general has had on me.
I'm just looking for more inspiration, to hopefully break my habits. Yes I try daily with the camera.
Thank you,
