I just got my camera back from Jamesburg Factory Service Center and was eager to try it out. JFSC adjusted the focus and cleaned the sensor. I wanted to get it serviced before the warranty was up on April 28th.
These gyms are so dark. Cranked up the ISO to 1600 and 3200. The girls are 10yrs. old and they try so hard. The win today advances them to the championships. 1DMkII with a 85 1.8.

Nice shots, Rob. The 85/1.8 is definitely one of the best lenses for shooting available light basketball. I'm surprised you were getting high enough shutter speeds to freeze the ball that well on #1. Very impressive.

Thanks for the reply Phil,
It was quite a struggle to get the 1/500 minimum shutter speed to freeze the action. I tried both TV and AV mode on the camera. Both modes were prone to underexposing. It was really hit or miss.......mostly miss. The most success came at ISO 3200 but the images were very noisy. Shot #1 were at ISO 1600 and the last was at 3200. Well on to the finals next week.

Those are great shots. I have a 10 year old boy that plays and a 5 year old girl that really gets into B'Ball.

Thanks,
I also have a 6yr. old son who attends the games with me. He admoshishes me every game for not signing him up for BBall. Hey who knew?
I don't specifically shoot to sell the photos but the parents and the kids are pretty excited to see the results. Hmmmmm business opportunity?.......maybe.

Those are great shots. The noise in #3 isn't very bad at all.

Thanks Gramps,
I did use a bit of Noise Ninja on the images.

I really like these shots. Good color, crops and even some action. :)
You also have a nice camera angle - not too high or low - with the girls filling each frame. Nice work.
Should we credit you or the Canon service center for this excellent result :D.

Thank you Woody,
I think the credit goes to all who have posted advice in this forum for shooting BBall using ambient light. I could not have figured it all out on my own. As for the angle, more forum advice, someone suggested shooting from a sitting or kneeling position. I knelt. I did not want to get trampled by the girls "crashing the boards" I think Canon deserves a post script for finially bringing the focus up to spec on the camera.

Very nice work. Peachy! Looking forward to seeing some more.
Enjoy that 85mm lens... I'm not sure where I'd be without it!

Thank you Gavin. On the 85 I agree. 2.8 is too slow for this gym.

hard to believe that is available light in the dungeons these kids play in. Those are excellent shots, and for where they were taken, the noise is negligible. After shooting the high school season with a 3.5, I think I am now convinced of getting the 85 1.8 for next year.

Thank you,
The 85 1.8 gives you a good bag for the buck. It is a nice indoor sports lens and it can also be used as a fine portrait lens. Not bad for $300 or so dollars.
