I have a Caonon 20D that I have hooked a wire from the camera to the flash. The wire is comming from the port on the side of the camera. Will it still work ETTL or do I have to go from the hotshoe to maintain the ETTL? I want to get the Sigma Super 500 flash of the camera and put it to the side without having to lose the ETTL exposure help.

Sorry, you will lose ETTL with a PC connection. You will need all the contacts on the camera hot shoe to the flash.

Any ideas about getting the flash off the camera? What will work the best? I want to move it a few feet from the camera like a studio lighting effect. I have this flash (Sigma super 500) and a Sunpak 383. How can I do this the cheapest? I also have a bare bulb and a small white umbrella. I want to be able to stay portable and able to set up fast.

First, read this thread to get a good understanding of your options:

The better method, for more consistent, predictable results is to use manual flash. Your Sigma Super has a built-in optical slave that makes this slick. Run a PC cord to the Sunpak and let the Sigma fire on its own. For this method you'll want a flash meter such as the Sekonic L-358.
