Even though I'm not in the market looking for a rebel xt I find it extremely annoying that Best buy is starting to sell these with the hated siver body. I know Canon has some sort of strategy here but it just sickens me that they would do that. It seems to me that 95% of the potential buyers out there want one in black. I know I would ! I'm sure they have their reasons but it's just incredibly frustrating for me to sit back and watch everyone have to wait to get their hands on a black one? Am I the only one that feels this way? This really gets (DELETED) me off.. I'm not trying to slam the silver body, I have one myself in the digital rebel. I just cant believe with all the knowledge that canon has they would do this..

Are they going to release it a wee bit later, and try to justify a $100 price increase for having one in black?

I don't understand the difference of the black and silver bodies...can someone enlighten me?

I hope thats not their plan. that would be ludicrous in my opinion. That would (deleted) lots of folks off. Most of the advertising suggest that they are pushing the black models to the public. That is why I get mad!! They show the pictures of the black one everywhere then release the silver one. How many people do you know who have the silver looking rebel who would have rather had a black one? Now they release their D70 killer and ship out a butt load of silver ones! (deleted)

It's very simple, The XT like the Original rebel will come in the color Black and the color silver. Well, it's not totally silver but close enough. It seems that canon is still going to make getting a black one a very hard thing to get. I called one of the longest and best running camera stores in Texas and they told me they are getting a shipment of silver/grey plastic rebel xt's as well..

When I bought my Olympus OM-1 back in the 70's, the black body was an extra $20. No big deal. And BTW: Some people (not me) actually prefer the "silver" colors. Folks: The Drebel is a consumer, digital SLR and is being marketed to consumers. Don't try to place in a pro or pro-sumer category.

Don't like it? Don't buy it. There are several other camera manufacturers out there that sell similar cameras.

t. It seems to me that 95% of the potential buyers out there want one in black. ................. I just cant believe with all the knowledge that canon has they would do this..

This is the second post (different Forum) that has said this, and it amazes me that you think a company with the millions invested in a new line and a considerable amount of that in market research, would make the mistake of offering the camera in the wrong colour. No I would imagine Canon's research shows that either average Joe (or Jane) prefers silver or does not care, probably the former which is why it's out first.

I know, the black paint takes longer to dry....:lol::lol:

I'll wait for the black model. What' the hurry? There's more to life than going fast, someone once said. Still shooting film and driving 10 year old car....

Trbo187 - My understanding is that most photographers "in the know" prefer the black body as it more closely resembles the 10D, 20D, 1D, etc. As stated, most of the "pro-sumer" and P&S models are in a silver color. It is obviously not a functional issue, just a matter of appearance

Certainly nothing to get worked up about ... like Mogwyth said, Canon knows what it's doing ... somebody (lots of somebodys) must be buying them.

Prices online are the same for either the black or silver one. Personally, I'd rather have the black one just because I think it looks better in black. I'll just wait....

I used to think colour had no functional purpose when it came to equipment, but then I noticed over time that it did.
Most average Joes think that silver digital cameras=high tech (while photogs know better).
When I had the G3 and the Drebel, I got continuous stares and questions from people on the street when doing candid work... "What kind of camera is that?!", "Oooh, is that ever nice!"... etc, etc. It just made being stealthy very difficult.
Now that I have a 20D, it's MUCH more rare that people ask me questions. In fact most people just assume that it's an old film camera. It's so much nicer for me to be out in public with my camera now. (I also later learned the same is true when it comes to white L lenses vs nice black prime lenses.)

Well best buy never been the most logical retail store, but the main reason they will be selling the silver body, is to push people towards the more expensive D70 or 20D if they really want a black body and dont want to wait to order it. Another example of Best Buy being illogical is this, I'm an epson rep, far as best buy goes the C86 is leaving the shelf ( probally one of the best text printers and such, good ink life etc ), and best buy is using the R200 to replace it, even though the R200 isnt a replacement for the C86 at all, but thats how best buy gona do it. :P

Well, on my way back from dropping off my brother at work I stopped at Best Buy, CompUSA (still had the original rebel for $999), and Circuit City. They were right next door to each other so it didn't take long.

Bestbuy didn't have it and the salesperson had no way of checking when it would be out. :\. The other two didn't know and couldn't check as well.

Oh well!

There is no difference in the actual camera itself..just the body color. Black bodies look more professional while the silver body is more like a simple point and shoot look. That's the only difference. No difference in performance, etc.

BHphoto has both listed, same price, looks like it would be easy enough to get.

I agree with everyone here for sure. I guess I'm in contact more with the crowd that prefers a more traditional camera. I didnt stop to think that maybe there is a bigger % that would prefer the silver body. Oh well, live and learn! This forum is great. It always seems to give me a new perspective.

I checked a couple of the online stores in Canada and they have both the black and silver at the same price. It would seem your issue should be with the retail level putting a different price on it rather than Canon.

Personally, I don't understand the issue of silver versus black. Does the black one make us better photographers?

Nope, it wont. But when shopping for a car wouldn't you pick the color that you like the most?

Hey Jackal, you stole my thunder! LOL.. I was just getting ready to say that.. I was thinking the same thing. When I buy a car, I like to get a color that I wont get tired of. I have grown up with lots of 35 mm film cameras in my hands because my dad was an avid photographer with lots of good old equipment. The reason I like black so much is because it's not so flashy. I would rather not be noticed and not be holding a camera up to my head that looks like a secret goverment aircraft engineered from area 51

Is a black camera body going to improve my pictures?

No?

Silver's workin' pretty good, then...

Black cameras will absorb the heat more and may cause problems before silver ones.

This caused me a problem with my Minolta A2 in Spain (body got too hot to touch - CF card blew up). I've never had a problem with my 20D.

One of the minor reasons I changed from a 300D to a 20D was because the black 20D looks like less of a toy.

If you drive a black car is it going to go faster then a silver one? that doesnt stop most people from picking one that suits them

Nice to see someone who takes things in the spirit they were offered and does not throw a paddy because others don't agree with them.

Yes It is a great forum.

To me its more about apperance. If the black one looks more professional, then a pro photographer may want to get a black one. If a client thinks your using a toy, you may loose business, even though its the same camera.

So some of you are seing the xt in stores already? I thought it wasnt due out till the 20th.

Didn't your mama teach (or preach as the case may be) that it's what's inside that counts. I think it applies here too. As for as the aluminum foil - will it keep out those evil signals from outer space?
