I was the first photographer at the fire, since it was right next door to my house. On the advice of a professional photographer with lots of pretty white lenses I rang the local newspaper right away, and this pic will be in tomorrows newspaper! I made a reasonably small NZ$80 (around US$55), but that's not too bad for a random snap, and it's the first money i've earned from my new hobby :)

Excuse the huge watermark, since I might sell it again I want to protect it against theft for now.

That is semi transparent... just not very far into the semi, around 50% opacity, and it's two layers, one white one black. I'll remove the watermark in a couple of days, once it's not saleable.

I've gota clean my lens now, and the sensor, not to mention myself, I reek of smoke.

I like that shot...its funny cuz at the bottom it just looks like the firefighters are standing doing nothing as if amazed by the site as much as we are. Neat

One of the fire fighters wants to buy copies of all the photos I did that day, 20 in all, and maybe a few more. Does anyone have any idea what sort of prices would be reasonable to charge him? I don't need the money, I have a pretty good job, and I don't want to rip off a guy who helped prevent a fire spreading to my apartment building. Also, would you consider selling the full resolution digital files, and if so, for how much?

Great shot! I agree with Avalonthas. The firefighters in the foreground look as if they are mesmorized by the blaze. Great shot. I hope you get more opportunities like this!

Now a free student magazine at a local university wants to use the images, and they don't have a budget. Maybe I can get myself a bit of free advertising in exchange? :)

Thanks :) People like fire, i've found. When I get around to it i'll post a version with the firefighters in the foreground more clearly visible, it changes the picture, whether for the good or the bad is up to the individual.

Today I sold the photo to the fire department for their internal magazine, and I allowed a student paper at the university to use it in exchange for some advertising. Selling photos over and over is a great trick! :D
