You Aussies are way too lucky! I've got another 12 hours to wait for cloudy skies!

Nice, was that the first submission of this event today? Personally I would have exposed a little longer to try and get the dark side of the moon to show up, plus something in the foreground helps I think, but a great shot for a great event, either way. Well done! :)

Thank you for the comments. Yes I did take some longer exposures, but didn't think them worthy of this site.

I hope the OP doesn't mind me adding a few of mine, here's my text and photo's from another thread:
From todays Sydney Morning Herald:
THE world may be facing its worst economic turmoil in decades, but the heavens are about to smile on Australia. A rare cosmic alignment tonight will produce a smiling face - or an emoticon, depending on your generation - high over the country. From soon after 8pm until just before 11pm the planets Venus and Jupiter will stare down from the western sky like two brilliant eyes. Directly below, the crescent moon will form a happy mouth.

Here's my effort, after a quick phone call from a friend saying "Have you seen the smiley sky":

These were taken in Perth, Western Australia with my brand new 40D and the 24-105. Had to rush and try and find my tripod!

New to this group and wandered in looking for info about tonight's display. Unfortunately, I am new to shooting the moon and understand to do so I would need a zoom. Unfortunately, I don't have a zoom, only 55mm. Will my attempts tonight be worth the effort at all ?? I do have a tripod and and remote control release. What setting should I use...was thinking of f16 / 1/125 and then bracket from there. What were you guys using for the ones above?? I would love to be able to capture this tonight and have been really racking my brain for the best spot.
Thanks for the help and any suggestions!
