I'm not sure if this was the red shoulder,or the red tail hawk.
i took this at an event called outdoorama,which did allow me to
get unusually close shots. if i view this picture ot 100% his head will not fit on my monitor.

Some of those hawks are hard to distinguish.
The red-tailed hawk averages 2.4 pounds, and is maybe 19 inches long.
The red-shouldered hawk averages 1.4 pounds, and is maybe 17 inches long.
So, sometimes the size alone will help you decide which it is.
If you get the sun angle right, then the red-tail's tail looks, well, red.

thanks everyone, this was taken with the infamous 75-300 At 250 mm.
this was my first real test with this lens. so far i am pleasantly suprised with it. till i get a taste of L
