I burned a CD of photos yesterday to give to someone that has a PC and the images wouldn't come up on a couple of different PC's. I coppied them to a folder, then burned the folder to a CD-R. They come up fine on my Mac, but not the PC's. Anyone know what the problem is. :o

What program did you use to burn them?

I didn't use any program, I just dragged them out of Iphoto into a folder on the desk top, loaded a CDR in the drive, dragged the folder onto the CD icon, let it do it's thing, then draged the CD to the burn icon. It burned it, but........................

Did you finalize the CD?

I guess I don't know what that means. If I put the cd in the Mac, the cd icon comes up and when I open the folder in it, the photos are there.

Get yourself Roxio Toaster (or similar software). It'll let you burn CDs that are Mac and PC compatible as well as also allowing your to burn ISO 9660 compliant CDs so that you can burn several different sessions on the same CD.

It's all rather weird to me, because I've done it in the past . I'm not using any program it's just a folder of photos. I wonder if it might be these new cd's I bought.

This is according to the IPhoto help file.
"IMPORTANT: Use iPhoto's burn feature to archive your photos and albums for viewing in iPhoto only. If you want to create a disc to be viewed on a Windows computer or by a photo processing company, you must use the Burn Disc command in the Finder. To learn more about creating a CD or DVD to be viewed in Windows or by a photo processing company, click "Tell me more.""
Then when "Tell me more" is clicked you get this:
Creating a CD or DVD to be viewed in Windows or by a photo processing company
You can use iPhoto's burn feature to archive your photos and albums for viewing in iPhoto only. If you want to create a disc to be viewed on a Windows computer or by a photo processing company, you must use the Finder.
1. In iPhoto, select the album or albums you want to burn to disc.
2. Choose Share > Export.
3. Click the File Export button at the top of the Export Photos window.
4. In the File Export pane, change the desired options:
Format: Choose a file format for your exported images from the Format pop-up menu. (Depending on the source of the images, you may want to choose JPG to ensure compatibility.)
Size: If necessary, scale images to a specific size by specifying a maximum width and height.
Name: Choose whether to export photos with their filenames, iPhoto titles, or album name. Be sure to select the "Use extension" checkbox to add the file format extensions (such as ".jpg" or ".tiff") to the end of the photos' filenames, titles, or album names.
5. Click Export.
6. Choose a location for the photos you are exporting, then click OK.
7. When the export is finished, quit iPhoto.
8. Click the Finder icon in the Dock and insert a CD-RW disc or a blank CD-R or DVD-R disc into your drive.
9. Drag the folder that contains your exported photos onto the disc's icon.
10. When the files have finished copying, choose File > Burn Disc, and then click Burn.
Is this what you did? From your explanation, I'm not quite sure.
Personally, I just use Toast by Roxio http://www.roxio.com/en/products/toast/index.jhtml , it's much easier and faster.

Yea, I didn't even mess with Iphoto, other than downloading to it. I then closed iphoto, and in finder created a folder, then opened iphoto again, selected all photos and dragged them to the new desktop folder. After that I put the cd in, dragged the folder to the cd icon, then when it got done initializing it or whatever it does, I then dragged the cd icon to the trash/burn icon and it burned it. The photos are on the disk, but when I put it on a pc, nothing happens, other than the light on the drive blinks for awhile, then stops and I can't seem to find the photos. I don't have a pc anymore, so I'm sort of out of touch with them, but I've burned cd's for people in the past and never had a complaint.

Ok, I just did what you said that you did, and everything turned out fine on both my Mac, and the Windows box sitting right next to it. So, I'd ask your friends "what system they are using on their Windows box", mine has XP on it, and it seems to read the Mac copied photo CD just fine.

Thanks John, I really appreaciate you taking the time to do that. I wondered if that might be an issue. I'll have to find out which operating system they are using.

Just to confirm John's message: I have done this many times and the photos came out fine in XP and in Win2000.
Even if you burn using iPhotos burn option the photos can be seen, but only by navigating a ridiculously complex file hierarchy.
I would try burning again, and yes, ask what version of WIN your friends have.
