JiT,

Really a great shot - and with the C5 IS - I have that same camera and didn't get near such good results. May I ask if you would share your settings with us? And did you use a special telephoto lens?

I got a good moon shot last month - probably just by accident! But used settings recommended by IvoryHut blogger. f 5.6 1/500 ISO 100.

Didn't work so well for this one! I'm clueless!

I will have to admit that it had a little help. This is a composite shot of two images. It was really simple. First off you have to be on a tripod, then turn off the image stabilization, this sometimes can cause movement if left on.

first shot. Expose for the brightest part of the image

f3.5 full zoom no digi zoom, no extra lens.
1/40 sec exp.
(could have done 1/80 for more detail in the bright side of the moon)
ISO 80

second shot. Expose for the darkest part of the moon.

f3.5 full zoom no digi zoom, no extra lens.
1 sec exp. (much longer and it gets blurry, moons moving)
ISO 80

Bring booth into photoshop, cut out the moon from the second shot and layer it over the first moon shot, adjust levels and you have it. Do a little experimenting and you will firgure it out. Hope this helps.:D

Thanks for the quick reply and for sharing your settings.

Actually, after reading that your photo was a composite, I don't feel so badly about mine (http://www.aerowebcon.com/12_1_08.jpg), as I did it with f5/6 1/500 ISO 80 and no tripod! Plus I was freezing.

However, I've just been out on the deck and used the settings you suggested in your reply. Still no tripod, but I feel I got some good experience. Won't know about the photos until I get them downloaded. But got some great shots of sunset!

Thanks again for the help.
