I like that you can see 2 of Jupiters moons in this one if you look close.

JiT, love the exposure of your image, excellent shot!
Would you mind sharing your settings? Also, were you shooting on manual and at what focal length.
I was aiming for your results but unfortunately didn't succeed and wondering why, so it would really be of benefit to know how you accomplished this.
Many thanks...

When I get time I'll start a Poll and bring everyone's images into it. However, the Poll/Competition is only going to allow one image per person, so if people do put their best in this thread then it'll make things a lot easier for me. :)

Sky of the Plains, I really like that first image. That *electric* blue of the sky I always like to try and capture and do not succeed very often. Beautiful colors in that image.
Hairycrab, so far that first image is the best exposure I have seen of this event, though I am still looking at more images. Fantastic balance regardless of clouds or no clouds!
Thanks everyone for sharing. As usual here in Indiana we had solid overcast and snow flurries all evening. If there is any astronomical event Indiana will always be socked in. My hats off to everyone for sharing this event with the people that could not see it.

To answer your question, yes, it was visible earlier this evening on the east coast, I would assume you'll get a shot out there later on.
This was my first attempt ever shooting shooting the night sky. EXIF is intact.
My stupid butt forgot that I was playing around in my living room last night and had the ISO jacked all the way up to 3200. Mercifully, I overexposed the bejeebers out of it, so when I pushed it down 2 stops to make it a little more reasonable, it needed far less reduction that it first appeared.
Proof positive that the monkey behind the shutter is more important than the hardware around it!

Ok... here is my attempt. Tried not to blow out the moon, but that in turn made Jupiter and Venus a little dark...

This is a stack of 3 images. The lake is the base image (exif). All three shot on a stationary tripod at varying exposures. Combined with CS3.

I'm not terribly happy with how it turned out (my first try). I'm working on another version for the monthly challenge.

Great shots all. A very interesting occurrence to observe because it is so clearly seen with the naked eye.

Here's another shot as I was coming down the mountain from Lake Arrowhead (see post #18 ). I discovered the nice thing about shooting the first one at 7000ft elevation, was I had enough time to drive down to about 3000-4000ft elevation and shoot this view overlooking the city of San Bernardino, Ca.

What a lot of great shots. Best of luck to all who enter theirs in the Monthly Challenge.
I almost missed the event, and my shots were nowhere near creating a Smiley or even a :(. However, as I live in the south of the UK, would we have had a conjunction that formed such a grouping at all? Most of the right-way-up Smiley`s seem to have been taken in the southern hemisphere, where the moon is upside down ;)

Hey all,
There was WAY too much clouds and fog to take any pictures, until last night (Dec.4). Original and with processing. XSi w/ 17-55 kit lens (@23mm), f3.5, 10 second exposure. I shot this in jpeg as I forgot to switch to raw until AFTER I went inside :(
