This was captured in rural Western Australia, crawling around the adge of a building.
It was wasp like in appearance, minus the wings and about 20mm in length.

If you have any idea on what it might be I would be grateful.

There are species of flightless wasps, so could be one of those. Sometimes called "velvet ants". Search for those or family Mutillidae.

Thought it might be a father Christmas bug but agree with Troy above- a velvet ant

Good set, Velvet ant was my first impression, given the appearance, size etc.
