I remember last time when I posted some bball shots on FM board, I was told there weren't enough hoops in my shots. After careful examing my shots, I realise where I usually sit with 85mm is a bit too tight. So I moved further away from the board this time, results? You certainly see more hoops! :D

The last 2 are the best in my books, love the movement. How come the guy's head in the bottom photo isnt blurred.
As Good as always sGu.

Cheers Dan!

That's something I've been working on lately, still need a lot of practice, but I'll get there ;)

I used 1/15s and panned with players when they were on the move, ideally their body would move while head is at the same level, hence to keep face sharp while body is blurred to give sense of motion.

Maybe I should use slight faster shutter next time, we'll see :D

Some of the FM forum guys have pretty strict formulas for good bbal shots. If your photo does meet these formulaic guidelines, then it is rejected. Some of your shots adhere to the formula - and, in fact, they are good. But ...

What I like about your shots is that you are trying different angles, approaches, and techniques. Bbal is about athleticism, color, movement, speed, height, energy, emotion, etc. There is no one way to do it right.

If you're shooting for an editor - then get the shots he/she wants. For the rest of the game, do your thing - something you're doing very well. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your comments :D

I only started to play with different settings 5 minutes towards end of the game, knowing I've got the shots in the bag ;)

I'm always up for changes and challenges, keep myself refreshed at all times, otherwise I might just get bored one day :P

Panning shots are very clever and well done and all images are terrific.

Thanks Dwight! Next time I'll try to get the face in near perfect sharpness :)

You've got some great shots there sGu!! I like the contrasty colors, definitive action, and intense emotion that you have captured. Maybe I should invest in that 85!

Thanks for your kind comment :D

85mm 1.8 is definitely worth spending money on if you tend to shoot a lot of indoor sports, especially basketball! Also get the WB right really brings out the colour :)
