Now that the Rebel XT is out, when and is there an expected Price drop on the 20D?

I am going to get a 20D and will hold out a few weeks if needed, but don't want to wait 3 months.

Any insiders or people that know Canon's regular pricing pattern?

I don't have much experience here, but my gut feeling is that there won't be a big price drop.

Canon most likely won't lower the price, introducing a different model at a cheaper price point is a strategy they seem to pursue. Maybe retailers will offer better prices on the 20D if demand slows down, but so far it was selling like the proverbial hot cake (that was before the introduction of the DRebel XT, of course)

I remember that I was looking for price drops in the 10D when the DRebel was introduced, and I recall that I was a bit surprised that there were virtually none - and the 10D was a lot older when the DRebel was introduced.

Best regards,
Andy

The price has already dropped about a hundred bucks, from when I bought my 20D, in December......

My bet is that there is NOT going to be a price drop in the 20D because of the XT. Canon wants to sell the XT for retail. If they drop the 20D, which is clearly a step up, why would people pay retail for the XT? Then they have to drop the XT. Not a cycle that Canon wants to enter.

No, there's no market pressure to drop the 20D. No word from Nikon on impending competition. I expect the 20D to stay where it is for some time. You might see dealers dropping below MAP to increase sales. But Canon won't be pushing the 20D out the door anytime soon. No sir.
