Looking for a better way to handle my photo numbering. I keep the numbering continious, but as part of the learning process I'm deleting a ton. Like a third - 1100 photos take and 700 kept.

Thanks in advance.

My workflow is that I download the card and then use breezebrowser to get rid of the obivous losers. I then use it to rename all of my files. It remembers the last file that I numbered. BB is so fast on loading the RAW files and creating the previews when you double click them. I have this as it was the first RAW converted that I used. I have since moved onto C1 for doing the actual conversion from RAW to TIFF.

I keep original file names given by the camera, so if anyone wants prints from the photos on the net they just give me the number. I use DIM by Alan Light (I think) to download the photos.

In Photoshop CS you can batch rename files. Select a bunch of photos in file browser; right click Batch Rename; and set destination folders and how you want the files to be renamed. Doesn't work too bad.

I usually shoot in RAW and as part of my workflow once I have eliminated the non-keepers and sorted the shots in the browser into a suitable sequence I then use batch rename to change the file name from CRW000205 into something that for me is more meaningful which is shootdate(yyddmm)/shoot abbreviation/number, like 050222SBS001.
