File Names

[Overexposed]

I purchased my 20D w/ EF-S 17-85mm and 580EX flash two weeks ago. This weekend was the first time the sun came out since the purchase. I took a total of 143 pictures yesterday with great results.:lol: I’ll post a few in the Photo Sharing section.



I have a question about how the files are named. The first 27 files began with the “IMG_” prefix, the next 17 had a “_MG _” prefix, the next 35 “IMG_”, the next 31 “_MG_” and the last 33 “IMG_”. Is this normal? :confused:

Having files named this was does not allow sorting by file name to get the files into the sequence they were taken. Although sorting by date and time does. The quality level was set to Large Fine.

In my experience, the IMG_ filename is when the selected colorspace is sRGB and the _MG_ filename is for the AdobeRGB colorspace. BTW, this information is on page 56 of the 20D's manual.

Ah, yes the manual. There it is on the bottom of page 56, fine print in the shaded box, just like you said. I was switching between Basic and Creative modes. Thanks
