We just picked up "Jesse" yesterday and could not believe how he had been confined in such a small cage. He is huge (about 20 inches head to tail and about 2 1/2 - 3#) and was confined to about an 18x18x24 space. Big bird cages are big$$$ (about $500 and up!) I came up with an innovative solution. I purchased a heavy duty, extra large dog crate (48"wide x 30" deep x 36" high) and mounted it on a cast iron table frame that we had in the basement. Jesse has a stylin' pad now!

On behalf of Jesse, let me thank you for that. That seems to have been much too small a place to confine such a beautiful bird.

Great idea! I never thought of using my dog crates for anything but the dogs!

What a great idea for a bird cage!

This is Oscar, she lives at my job (humane society) and everyone takes care of her....she was picked up as an abuse case...she was living in a bar b que grill and has beak and feather disease (which causes her to pull out all of her feathers). She has a huge vocabulary and also was living with a man who had one of those voice box things, so she breaks out in weird sounding words sometimes...I guess immitating who she used to live with. Sorry about the crap photo, it was taken with my cameraphone...
