hello.
i have a canon sd 1100 and i want to explore the memory card without the software canon supplies.
when i connect my cam to my pc only the microsoft wizard is coming up and there is no additional virtual drive -like other cameras.
i have instaled the canon software but no solution there- i can only transfer from or to the camera.
i want to be able to delete some pictures from the camera's card- not using a card reader.like most cameras i want to explore the camera's card on the pc. doing it from the cam itself gives me just 2 options-delete one at a time or delete all!
please help if someone knows what to do.
thanx

From what I recall, when you plug in your camera to the PC, your camera should show up in Windows Explorer. Should say Canon SD1100 or Canon camera of some sort. Click on that link to your camera on the lefthand side and it should show a list of all the pictures IMG_xxxx. So just hold CTRL and left click with the mouse to select the ones you want to delete. Hope that helps ... I usually just try and avoid whatever window pops up in XP/Visa that asks me what I want to do or what program to use.

What you are having is one of my main irks about Canon cameras. There are other manufacturers that allow you to read/write to the card while in the camera, but Canon doesn't allow it. You can do what the previous poster suggested for deleting individual pics, but if you want to have better control a card reader is really handy and usually reads/writes faster than through the camera. I just picked up a Targus card reader at Wallyworld a couple weeks ago after losing the previous one and it cost $9 or $10 if I remember right. Hope that helps :)

As the last poster suggests, just get a cheap card reader/writer. All the time you are wasting on trying to get photos to and from your camera is really just wasted time. I have an SD1100IS and from opening and putting the card in the card reader takes about 3 seconds and 3 seconds to put back into the camera.
To me that makes sense. I'd suggest that you have spent a lot of time and aggravation up to now. Just do as suggested and you can start to enjoy your camera.

in other canon models when you plug in the cam to pc it shows the virtual drive- i wonder why in this model its impossible?
i guess i will get a card reader- are the cheap ones working good enough?
thanx for the replys.
