View Full Version : Orange, Red, & Black. What is it?

Im not familiar with insects...but when i find one as cool looking as this, i like to figure out what it is...but i havent been able to. The closest thing i can find is a box elder bug, but the markings, while the same in color, are completely different.

We were fixing the fence this past weekend, finally (from Hurricane Ike), and this little guy was crawling on a piece of wood. He had wings, but he didnt fly. just crawled along the board.

Nice shots. Looks like a planthopper to me. Not too sure though :)

but some more digging after dinner tells me its a two-lined spittlebug.

and that probably explains some dead spots in my grass! grrrr
