bulb setting/shutter speed?

hi there. sorry to sound silly.
im looking to do some real long exposures on my 40d and in digital magazine it says u can change shutter speed to 'bulb' so it will keep shooting continuous until u stop it urself... is this right if so how can i do it? ive searched about but cant find any post topics on it..

Put the camera in Tv or M mode, then make the shutter speed slower and slower, until you get to the last one, which is Bulb.

but you have to hold down the shutter button.... just to let you know... or get a timed remote to open and close it...
